How the CDS Anti-Spam
Solution Works
when you address a regular
envelope, you put the person name, address, city, state
and zip on it. The post office knows, based on the address,
where to deliver the envelope. Someone in your house takes
the mail and delivers it to the person who it is truly addressed
to. Email works in a similar fashion. When email is sent
to you, the Internet reads the second half of your email
address (@YourCompany.com) and delivers it to the email
server that is associated with @YourCompany.com. The email
software on your PC reaches out to your own email server
to get your email. But how does the Internet know to deliver
email addressed to @YourCompany.com to your email server?
When you register your
company’s domain name (YourCompany.com) on the Internet,
you create a mail delivery record known as an MX record.
This MX record points all email address to @YourCompany.com
to your email server.
To get rid of spam, CDS
does the following. We change your MX record and have it
point, not to your email server, but to our CDS AntiSpam
server where we use the latest filtering methods to filter
out the spam. The CDS AntiSpam server then forwards all
good email on to your regular email server where your PCs
are expecting it to be. Spam mail is kept on our CDS AntiSpam
server for a period of 7 days. Your users can log on to
our CDS AntiSpam server to see what email has been filtered
and can allow certain email to get through, after all, some
people may want the Viagra emails.
That’s how it works.
Not much to do on your side. CDS will work with your IT
department to implement and will give you access to the
filtering tools. Most users are reporting better than 90%
success in filtering their email.
